Once upon a time there was an old man , an old woman and a little boy . One morning the old woman made some gingerbread in the shape of people. The gingerbreads had eyes, ears and mouth like people. When the old woman put the gingerbreads in the oven to cook, she said to the little boy, "You take the gingerbreads out of the oven when they are done. I and Grandpa are going to work in the fields.
The boy replied, ok grandma. I will take care.
Then the old man and the old woman went out and started digging the ground and the little boy watched the gingerbreads being cooked. But suddenly he heard a sound and he looked up. He saw the oven door open, and a gingerbread man jumped out of the oven and walked towards the open door of the room. The little boy ran to close the door, but the Gingerbread Man was running too fast so the Gingerbread Man was out the door long before the little boy could catch him.
The little boy ran after him as fast as he could, shouting to his grandfather and grandmother. Hearing the screams, the old man and the old woman chase after the gingerbread man
But unable to catch him, he soon disappeared from their sight. They give up.
The Gingerbread Man moves forward at a brisk pace. After some time he saw two men who were digging a well. They see the Gingerbread Man and ask, "Where are you going, Gingerbread Man?"
He says, "I won with an old man, an old woman and a little boy in the race and I can win with you too."
They said, "Well, let's see who wins." With this they start running after the Gingerbread Man, but they cannot catch him and soon give up.
The gingerbread man kept running. He came to a bear. "Where are you going, Gingerbread Man?" said the bear .
He said, "I have won with an old man, an old woman, a little boy, two well diggers in the run and I may win with you too.
The bear growled, "And so it is. Come on, let's have a race." The bear started running as fast as he could, but he couldn't beat the gingerbread man either. Accepted defeat.
The gingerbread man now approaches a wolf . "Where are you going, Gingerbread Man?" said the wolf .
He said, "I won with an old man, an old woman, a little boy, two well diggers, and a bear. I can win with you too!"
The wolf said, "Well then, let's see." With that he ran after the Gingerbread Man. But the gingerbread man went so fast that even the wolf saw that there was no hope of overtaking him, and he also gave up.
The gingerbread man walked on until he came upon a fox that was lying quietly in a corner of the fence. The fox called out in a shrill voice, "Where are you going, Gingerbread Man?"
He said, "I have won with an old man, an old woman, a little boy, two well diggers, two ditch diggers, a bear and a wolf in the run, and I may win with you too!
said the fox, "I can't hear you, gingerbread man. Will you come a little closer?"
The gingerbread man stopped his running and walked a little closer and said very loudly, "I win with an old man, an old woman, a little boy, two well diggers, a bear and a wolf, and I can win with you."
"I can't hear you yet. Come a little closer," said the fox in a low voice.
The gingerbread man approached and bent over the fox, shouting, “I have won with an old man, an old woman, a little boy, two good lames, two ditch diggers, a bear, and a wolf, and I may win with you too.
The fox got angry and devoured the gingerbread man with his sharp teeth in the blink of an eye.
And that was the story of the Gingerbread Man.
